About the Program

The Centre for Public Health and Social Well-Being (CPHS) addresses the vital link between environment, health, and social development. It works to strengthen the capacity of communities and institutions to respond to the growing health challenges arising from climate variability, air and water pollution, and socio-economic disparities.

Through an integrated approach combining research, awareness, and partnerships, the Centre promotes equitable access to healthcare, preventive health measures, and social resilience. It serves as a bridge between science, policy, and community action, helping people live healthier, more informed, and more dignified lives.

Significance of the Program

India’s rapid urbanization, environmental degradation, and climate extremes are increasingly shaping the nation’s health landscape. Bihar, with its dense population and high exposure to climatic and environmental stresses, faces multiple health burdens—ranging from vector-borne and water-borne diseases to heat-related illnesses and malnutrition.

The Centre for Public Health and Social Well-Being (CPHS) responds to these complex challenges by promoting preventive health systems, environmental health literacy, and stronger institutional collaborations. Its initiatives align with the National Health Mission (NHM), National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), and state efforts to strengthen public health infrastructure and community-based care.
